Man instead of ASIC: Microsoft has filed a patent application for a new cryptocurrency and mining system
Microsoft wants to patent PoW consensus cryptocurrency. However, instead of video cards or ASIC miners, the system uses “human body activity data”.
Microsoft has filed for a patent for a “cryptocurrency system using human body activity data.” The application says that this will allow people to mine cryptocurrency without additional devices and eliminate the need for ASIC miners.
According to the application, “activity of the human body” can be directly used for mining: “a brain wave or body heat emitted by a user when he performs a task provided by an information or service provider, for example, viewing ads or using certain Internet services, used in the process of cryptocurrency mining. ”

The document further states that this type of activity will replace the “massive computational work” that is required for some traditional cryptocurrency systems. This is due to the fact that data obtained from human activity can be considered as proof of work, and, therefore, the user can, without realizing it, solve a complex computational problem.
For certain tasks, a different amount of computing energy will be required. A system using data on the activity of the human body is likely to work through a server that issues a command to a wearable device. Body activity data can be generated based on user activity. The cryptocurrency mining system associated with the user’s device can check whether the body activity data satisfies one or more of the conditions set by the system and transfer the cryptocurrency to the user as a reward.
Microsoft has not yet announced whether the new cryptocurrency will be based on the existing blockchain or whether the company will create its own platform.
In 2018, researchers at the Institute of Human Obsolescence found that 44,000 people needed the energy to produce 1 BTC. Now this figure is much larger.
