Russian diplomats request transfer of Alexander Vinnik to house arrest
Russian diplomats sent a note to the French Foreign Ministry asking them to transfer Alexander Vinnik to house arrest.
According to activist Maria Butina, who sent a request to the Russian Embassy in France, on March 30, Russian diplomats demanded that the French Foreign Ministry provide adequate and proper medical care to Alexander Vinnik. In addition, diplomats requested information on what measures to curb the spread of coronavirus are being taken by the French authorities in the Fren prison, where the alleged operator of the BTC-e exchange is being held. The answer has not yet been received.
“Having received no response, on April 14 they sent a note to the French Foreign Ministry demanding the French judicial authorities to consider the transfer of A.B. Vinnik’s house arrest and confirmed their readiness to provide for this purpose an apartment owned by the Russian Federation, ”said Butina, Russian Ambassador to France Alexei Meshkov.

Butina maintains contact with Vinnik’s mother and lawyer. His health has been greatly shaken over the years of detention in various prisons and hunger strike, so in case of infection with coronavirus, a fatal outcome is quite likely. If the defendant is transferred to house arrest, it will be easier to avoid infection. At the same time, the Russian embassy is ready to provide Vinnik with a temporary apartment.
Recall that Alexander Vinnik was arrested in Greece in 2017. And at the beginning of this year he was extradited
to France, where they later presented
allegations of money laundering, extortion and other crimes. It was reported that after the trial, Vinnik was again transferred to Greece, and then extradited to the United States, where he would be charged with similar charges. And only then can the accused be sent to Russia.
