Spanish entrepreneur registers Bitcoin trademark and logo rights

A Spanish businessman involved in the sale and purchase of cryptocurrency has registered ownership of the name and logo of Bitcoin at the national level.

The entrepreneur wished to remain anonymous, but said that he had brought in a lawyer and an intellectual property expert to register with the local Patent and Trademark Office.

According to the businessman, he did it in order to confirm the legality of his activities and protect the Bitcoin brand from abuse by fraudsters, at least in Spain. Although he does not seek to impersonate Satoshi Nakamoto, he said that he intends to fight against the misuse of the logo and name of the first cryptocurrency.

However, the registered trademark is identical to the original symbol of Bitcoin, so the copyright holder will be able to make claims to everyone who uses it in Spain without permission.

An example is the British company ABC IPHoldings South West, which in 2018 registered a trademark called Bitcoin, after which the local business began to receive orders prohibiting the distribution of products with this symbolism.
