Italian aircraft manufacturer Leonardo is preparing for serial production of the first commercial aircraft with the possibility of vertical take-off and landing.

The nine-seat AW609 civilian aircraft is capable of flying up to 1850 km at a speed of more than 550 km / h, rising to a maximum altitude of 7.6 km. Aircraft with rotary engines combines the best characteristics of an airplane and a helicopter, as it is able to take off and land vertically, and use rotors for horizontal thrust in the air.

This makes it possible to use it even on small sites in the central areas of the city. In addition to flying much faster than a helicopter using two massive Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6C-67A engines, the AW609 also has an anti-icing coating and high-pressure boost function.

Leonardo is already completing the certification process for the AgustaWestland tiltrotor project and is planning to start selling it soon. Until now, such aircraft are used only by the military.

Recall that in October 2019, China demonstrated a prototype of a round stealth helicopter similar to a UFO.
